For years, House of Cards star, Kevin Spacey’s sexuality has been questioned by many. The Oscar winner has always declined to disclose any information about his sexual orientation and has labeled it as nothing but “gossip”. No media outlet have been successful and obtaining an answer.
But today, Kevin Spacey came out as gay in a statement via Twitter:
His personal statement came after a sexual assault allegation was made by the actor, Anthony Rapp. The actor claims that he was sexually assaulted as a 14-year old boy by then, 26-year old Kevin Spacey back at his apartment in 1986. The actor also claims that the 14-year old Rapp was invited to a party by Spacey where he was clearly the only under-aged individual at that party.
According to Buzzfeed News, “Rapp is publicly alleging for the first time that in 1986, Spacey befriended Rapp while they both performed on Broadway shows, invited Rapp over to his apartment for a party, and, at the end of the night, picked Rapp up, placed him on his bed, and climbed on top of him, making a sexual advance.”
This accusation prompted Spacey to issue a statement where he then admitted to being “a gay man”. The actor received a lot of flack for coming out in the worst of situations and many criticize his coming out as a distraction to the sexual assault accusation.
Spacey says that it was clearly “inappropriate drunken behavior” and apologized.
