Touted as one of the most promising stars of ABS-CBN, Maricar Reyes is all set to wow the viewers once again via the teleserye Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo. But behind her air of confidence on the set, Maricar revealed to ABS-CBN.com that she’s still not used to working with the likes of Kris Aquino and Gabby Concepcion. “Four or five times na kaming nakapag-taping and yes, nagkasama na kami [ni Kris]. I am sure this has been said about her already pero she's so intimidating. Mabait siya, sa set nga tsinitsika niya ako, tinanatanong niya ako ng questions like what did I do for Christmas ganyan ganyan… Pero siyempre si Kris Aquino siya. Kinakabahan pa rin ako. But she’s nice and very motherly. Second taping day ko pa lang kasama ko na siya pero nasa adjustment period pa rin ako. I’m still intimidated,” she recounted when ABS-CBN.com visited her during an on-location shoot of the soap last January 8.
Being paired with Gabby Concepcion further inspired her to perform well, but since the former matinee idol was so easy to work with, she didn’t have a hard time forming a bond with him. “First impression ko sa kanya, nagkita kami for the pictorial, and I discovered na napaka-friendly niyang tao. Kuyang-kuya siya talaga. Tapos lagi siyang matsika. He always tries to make the atmosphere very light. Kahit magtri-three am na, nagjojoke-joke siya. Since mag-asawa kami sa soap, kailangan magkaroon ng chemistry between us. Pero sa sobrang friendly niya, right away magaan na yung loob ko sa kanya so madali ng umarte as his wife,” she beamed.
Aside from the teleserye, the 25-year-old actress is also busy shooting the movie Miss You Like Crazy with John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. It was a happy reunion for the three of them since Maricar previously starred as John Lloyd’s first girlfriend on I Love Betty La Fea. “Nakakatuwa kasi yung sa set dun sa movie parang silang barkada. Tsaka welcoming sila so ‘pag may new face, kikilalanin ka, kukulit-kulitin ka nila. Medyo hindi ko na kailangang mag-adjust this time around kasi kapag na-meet mo sila ulit, parang old friends lang ang treatment.” But she couldn’t help but be amazed whenever John Lloyd turns into different person when he’s in character. “Si John Lloyd magaling talaga. Sa tuwing may eksena kami, makikita mo talaga yung character sa mata niya, So nae-engganyo ka rin na i-develop yung character mo.”
With all these opportunities being given to her, Maricar shared that she’s really grateful to ABS-CBN for letting her showcase her flair for drama. The fact that she has worked with the country’s hottest leading men as well as the most seasoned veteran stars are considered big accomplishments already. “I have no words to express kung gaano ako ka-grateful na mabigyan ng chance kasi alam ko naman kung gaano kahirap pumasok sa showbiz at kung gaano kahirap mag-stay. Kasi kapag binigyan ka ng project, minsan hindi mo alam last project mo na pala yun. So nagpapasalamat ako na nagtitiwala sila sa akin at may ibinibigay silang roles na kakaiba. So I hope I don’t let them down,” she stated.
